After eight years of clinical training in a variety of settings including the Chicago Public Schools, private practice, community mental health centers, and finally, Linden Oaks Hospital, I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago in 2018.
During my clinical training, I enjoyed working with a broad diversity of clients, and gained competency in working with individuals from different ethnic and racial backgrounds, different religions, and different gender identities.
I believe that a strong, supportive therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of all change. Therefore, I practice primarily from a Rogerian Client-Centered perspective, emphasizing empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness. I also incorporate behavioral interventions and elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). With children and some adolescents I employ non-directive play therapy. Because I believe that healthy parent-child relationships are paramount to a child’s functioning, I am careful to involve a child’s caregivers in the therapeutic process at all times, so that they can fully support the child as he or she practices their newly gained coping skills outside of the office.
My specialties include working with children and adolescents coping with anxiety, mood concerns, behavioral issues, and autism spectrum related concerns, as well as working with the LGBT community. As a trans man, I find myself in a somewhat unique position to provide competent, compassionate, understanding care to those exploring their gender identity or presentation, as well as those who identify as trans or gender diverse.
I am a self described geek who loves comic books, super heroes, video games, tabletop role playing games, and dressing up for the Renaissance Festival. When I’m not at work, I often spend my time tending my indoor garden, playing with my cats, or playing Dungeons & Dragons with my friends. My other hobbies include archery, carving viking style drinking horns, brewing my own mead, and cooking.
