“What you water grows”
Over the last 8 years, I have felt called to do work that entails working closely with people, there unique circumstances and life situations. This calling has led me to pursue an education including two master’s degrees – a M.Sc. in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in group therapy from the Sampurna Institute for Advanced Studies, and a M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Wheaton College. Over the past 4 years, I had the opportunity to work with about 50 clients having over 700 client contact hours; about 60 hours of group therapy experience; and over 70 hours of community workshops, outreaches and other events.
I see my role as your therapist as similar to the role of a coach. You already carry within you all the skills and strengths that you need to live a healthy, congruent, and fulfilled life. It is my job to work with you as we discover how to harness the strengths that you already have, and how to practice coping with life challenges in ways that will help you feel more connected to others and yourself.
In therapy, I use a combination of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Structural Family Therapy, and I especially enjoy working with couples, families, and children who are coping with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and grief and loss. I love working with families as they go through transitions like marriage, having a new child, divorce, blending a family, and I am trained and certified in a program called PREPARE&ENRICH that is used as a tool for couple work; both premarital/preventive and marital/developmental/remedial.
My experiences with a wide range of clients from different age groups and cultures, as well as my own experience as an immigrant to this beautiful country, have allowed me to learn about and interact with diverse groups of people, reminding me to always remain curious and grateful for the unique life stories that I am privileged to witness unfolding.
Outside of my life as a therapist, I take pleasure in baking, cooking, and trying new food places. I also enjoy canoeing, traveling, (novice) bike riding, going for strolls with friends, reading and training my dogs. Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or to set up an appointment!
