You Do Not Need to Have Everything Figured Out This Summer

A reminder that growth is not measured by productivity, certainty, or constant progress — and that rest is part of healing too.

The final bell rings, the last assignment is graded, and the yearbooks have been signed. It’s finally summer!! The moment you’ve been waiting for since the first day of school. Time to make the most of it and cross everything off of your summer bucket list… or is it?

Summer often comes with the pressure of making goals, creating long lasting memories with friends, and soaking up every minute of sunshine and productivity. After spending the school year learning new topics and setting countless goals, why should summer be a rinse and repeat? Growth rarely follows a perfectly organized timeline. Not having a plan or knowing exactly what comes next does not mean you are going to fall behind.

This summer can be an opportunity to reconnect with what brings you peace and joy. Rest is a reward for the hard work you put in during the cold and dark months of winter and recovery requires intentionality. Pause and think: how can I be present in the moment? Your worth is not determined by how productive you are. It is not determined by how quickly you reach the next milestone. Sometimes the most important thing you can do is give yourself space to rest and recharge and trust in the process that you are right where you need to be. Goals can take a summer vacation just like you. Enjoy the little things and find the magic in the small moments that make each day unique!
