I received a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University, Chicago, IL in 2008 and have been working as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor for ten years.
I enjoy working with children and adolescents ages 5-18, adults, and families coping with concerns including ADHD, anxiety disorders, autism spectrum disorder, behavioral issues, co-dependency, depression, domestic violence, divorce and parenting issues.
My theoretical orientation stems from a family systems approach. Especially when working with children and teens, I believe it is useful to view the child as one part of a larger system, which requires collaborating with parents and other members of the family in effort to support the client’s emotional needs. Additionally, I recognize that a direct, skills-based approach, through the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) empowers an individual to take ownership of his/her emotional well-being.
Therapy would include teaching strategies to my clients around mindfulness and recognition of unhealthy behaviors along with implementing new coping tools and behavioral modifications. I am mindful and empathetic of specific circumstances that each individual has endured in their life, and recognize the impact that these circumstances may have on clients’ beliefs and behaviors.
I have extensive training and certification in Domestic Violence and Child & Adolescent focused work. Additional experience also includes volunteering in Capetown doing group counseling with adults dealing with issues associated with HIV/AIDS. It is important to me to remain culturally aware and sensitive to each diverse population in the community.
I am happy to offer public speaking seminars to the community around a range of mental health issues and can be tailored to meet your needs, upon request.
Please do not hesitate to email me at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment. Thank you and I look forward to working with you!
Outside of work, I love trying out new recipes with my husband, large family get togethers, restoring my imagination through play with my daughter, and exercising when I find the time! My future goal is to travel internationally at least once a year
