I earned my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Purdue University in 2007, and completed my internship at Butler University in Indianapolis. My training focused on learning how to deliver culturally competent, research-based treatment to individuals across the lifespan. I have worked as a licensed clinical psychologist in Illinois since 2008.
I specialize in working with children and adults coping with anxiety, grief and loss, and mood issues, and in helping individuals navigate change and stage-of-life challenges. After a six-year journey through repeated pregnancy loss and infertility, my husband and I were overjoyed to complete our family through adoption in December 2018. Because of this experience, I have a special love for working with adoptive and blended families, as well as with individuals and couples coping with fertility challenges and loss.
I strongly believe that competent psychological services must center on giving “care for the whole person.” Thus, I pay as much attention to helping my clients develop and harness their strengths so that they may grow as individuals as I do to alleviating their symptoms of sadness, stress, and anxiety.
I use cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques, to help clients learn the tools to understand and manage symptoms of anxiety and sadness, and I utilize state-of-the-art attachment research, internal family systems, and mindfulness techniques in order to help my clients establish and nurture healthy relationships with themselves and others. I am trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) and the Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) model and love using these therapy modalities to help parents and kids and love using this therapy modality to help parents and kids become more attuned and “in-step” with one another.
When appropriate, I enjoy incorporating neuropsychological testing into the assessment process, in order to more clearly identify and pinpoint the way in which underlying issues such as AD/HD, learning differences, or issues with executive functioning, memory, or information processing may be impacting an individual’s functioning.
I have extensive background and interest in multiculturalism and working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and work to be an active ally to my neighbors in the LGBTQ, Black, Muslim, and undocumented communities.
I am an active member of the American Psychological Association, as well as the APA Division for Peace Psychology and the Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice. I am a graduate of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program, and an active member of the Women Presidents’ Organization, NAWBO, the Private Directors’ Organization, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, and the Illinois Psychological Association.
When I am not at work or volunteering at my kids’ school, I love to spend time reading, running, drawing, rock climbing with my husband, hiking with my kids, cooking with friends, and practicing inversions on my yoga mat. I am a proud vice president of the board of Run Like a Cheetah, a nonprofit organization that seeks to bring running breaks, and the self-confidence, grit, and joy that go along with learning to run, to grade schoolers across the city of Chicago. I think that this world is big and beautiful, and that life is a gift, and that both are best honored by experiencing them joyfully and intentionally.
